Maglan Special Unit

Maglan Special Unit

Maglan ( Hebrew: מגלן Also known as Unit 212 or Sayeret Maglan . ) Is a special forces unit of Israel , which specializes in operations behind enemy lines and in the midst of enemy territory using advanced technologies and weapons .
The name of the unit comes from the bird Ibis (Hebrew: Maglan).
The Israeli military keeps the unit’s designated missions secret and does not provide information about the subject matter or the operations in which the team is involved. Maglan only became publicly known in 2006. Very little is known about the unit, only that the force conducts major covert operations behind enemy lines, deep in hostile territory. Like Sayeret Matkal, although the unit’s operators wear a red beret and brown combat boots and conduct basic training at one of the paratrooper bases, they are not part of the Paratrooper Brigade. Maglan has a 14-month training program , and many of the candidates drop out due to the harsh nature of the program . As in Sayeret Matkal, Maglan answers to Major General of the IDF and not to one of its regional commands.
Maglan is a relatively new unit. It is rumored to have been deployed on covert SCUD fighter missions in Iraq during the first Gulf War in 1991.
During the Second Lebanon War , the unit participated ו in many operations and achieved great success . During Operation Beach-Boys , the unit operates along the western coastal strip of Lebanon and destroyed 250 targets , including 40 rocket launchers .
