San Salvador – The president of
Guatemala, retired general
Otto Perez, began an official visit to
Israel on Monday, where he is seeking to acquire airplanes and weapons.
Perez met yesterday with Israeli President
Shimon Peres and Israeli
Defense Minister
Moshe Yaalon. According to
Agencia Guatemalteca de Noticias (AGN), he is also expected to visit the
Lahav aeronautical division, part of
Israel Aerospace Industries(IAI).

The Guatemalan president, who will also discuss with the Israeli representatives other cooperation issues between the two countries, is accompanied by his ministers of
Foreign Affairs,
Fernando Carrera; of
Defense, Major General
Manuel López; and of
Agriculture,
Elmer López; as well as his wife,
Rosa Leal de Pérez.
