Elbit’s new Jupiter camera, installed on the Ofek 16 satellite, captures a 15-km surface cell at once, helping the IDF’s visual intelligence unit monitor Iran and Syria, among others. Israeli camera sees unprecedented resolution, from space: on Israel’s Ofek 16 satellite, launched Monday night from the Palmachim base into space, has a Jupiter camera, which is smaller than a private vehicle and weighs only 120 kg. Its new version is likely to improve the results of the IDF’s Visual Intelligence Unit 9900. The Jupiter space camera, developed at Elbit Systems, is multispectral and allows high-resolution photographs down to 50 cm from the ground, all while the satellite is in space 600 km from Earth. The Jupiter camera can capture a 15 km field of view in each photograph.
